About eight months ago, my hair had been over processed multiple times and had become severely damaged. The first sign was months prior, but unfortunately, I did not know the signs of damage. I was sitting in a chair after being processed, watching my hair fly around the room as the damaged pieces were literally melting under a hairdryer. I didn’t realize the full scope of the damage until I got home and saw the breakage and felt how thin my hair felt. Thankfully, there are things that can be done to repair damaged hair and I’m excited to show you my transformation from damaged to dazzling with Bellami Hair Extensions.
This post is sponsored by Serenity Salon in Little Rock, however, all opinions are my own.
As I said, there were several warning signs that my hair was damaged. As I would dry my hair, the roots were very tangled, so tangled I couldn’t get a brush through the top. Then my hair became what is know as “gummy” around the roots. It actually felt sticky and would melt and break when heat was applied from a dryer. For someone that has always had strong thick hair, it was heart breaking to watch my hair melting away!
I went on a search for a Salon that had experience in dealing with damaged hair, and that would still be cost-effective as well. Enter Serenity Salon in Little Rock. I explained my situation and they educated me on how and why it happened. They gave me full confidence that going forward my hair could be repaired, though I was told it would take months maybe even more than a year. Eight months later, my hair is well on it’s way to being back to the strength it was before!
For months Kathryn Benson, my stylist at Serenity Salon, has been using a product called Bond Ultim8 by Matrix. It has helped strengthen my hair. She advised me to let it air-dry to minimize the amount of heat on my hair, and to be mindful of the degree of heat of my curling wand and how long I will let my hair stay on the iron. Kathryn rarely puts me under a dryer (which is often done to make the color process faster), the more heat applied during this process, the more damage that can be done.
Even though my hair has gotten stronger, my hair still experienced so much breakage that I had varying lengths all over my head, and it was very thin as you can see from my before photos. For eight months I’ve been very creative with styling my hair to hide the thinness. I’ve teased, I’ve curled, I’ve put it in a ponytail way too often. We decided to add in 22-inch extensions to help with the thickness and to help my hair have an overall healthy look and feel. An added bonus was about four inches of new length. I call this mermaid hair and I’m obsessed! I walked into the salon that day feeling embarrassed and left feeling glamorous.
We chose to use tape-in Bellami Hair extensions because they don’t cause damage to your hair. They last about 6 months and when I go in for my color touch-up they will move them up to the root of my hair. They aren’t noticeable as it relates to the weight, and although it takes me longer to dry and style, it is really easy to do! In fact, it’s much easier to style my new hair than it was before and the curl holds longer. I am seriously obsessed and may not ever go without these extensions!
At night, or if I’m working around the house, I simply put my hair in a loose braid to keep it from getting too messed up at night or in my way during the day. I can style it just as I styled it before. I can curl or straighten, I can wear it in a ponytail or a messy bun. It’s just much more fuller, and much more glamorous! Bellami Hair extensions are the way to go!
I’ve been coloring my hair since I was a teenager so I’ve grown accustomed to exactly what I like. I like the color applied as close to root as possible so I can go longer between visits. I do not like a brassy color at all and I like what I call buttery blond. When I first came to Kathryn, I mentioned these things and in the first visit she got it exactly right. Now that’s what I call an expert! My hair is the perfect golden blond every time, close to the roots and not brassy at all!
The other thing to mention about my experience is the new friendships. When I walk in the salon I am greeted by Heather, the owner, and the other gals like Isabella, with a hello and a smile every time. At other salons, you might not even be noticed by the other staff, but at Serenity Salon they make you feel like a sister or a friend. Katheryn has become a true friend and always remembers our conversations and asks me how my work with the blog is going. She also makes me feel incredibly good, which is worth gold! As a mom of five, and someone who is dealing with the signs of aging for the first time, sometimes another woman lifting you up can make all the difference in the world!
I love what Serenity Salon has done in regards to their interior! It’s all white, with sparkling crystal chandeliers. They have posh black swivel chairs and beautiful contemporary art. It’s very bright and fresh! They offer all types of services, they are skilled at special event hair styling AND makeup. They offer waxing, they have a huge selection of hair care products and products that help with eyelash growth. They cut and style men and children as well. They have super fun colored extensions for that added pop of pink or purple that is so popular right now. And if you’re needing excellent color, damage repair or a transformation like I needed, I would seriously turn to them.
Can you believe the before and after shots? I can’t get over the difference and I’m thrilled with my results. I’m so thankful for my friends at Serenity Salon in Little Rock for turning my hair from damaged to dazzling with Bellami Hair Extensions!
